Homeopathy, also known as homeopathic medicine, is an alternative medical system that was developed in Germany more than 200 years ago. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), homeopathy is the second largest system of medicine in the world. WHO adds that homeopathy is practiced in 66 countries and the treatment is individualized. It seeks to stimulate the body’s defence mechanisms to prevent or treat illness.
It is based on the law of similia similibus curenture (like cures like) which means that a substance that can cause certain symptoms in a healthy person can cure similar symptoms in an unhealthy person. Homeopathy aims to aid and stimulate the body’s own defenses and immune system and to restore balance by increasing the vitality of unhealthy person. Homoeopathic remedies are derived from a variety of plants, animals, minerals, nosodes (secretion of diseased animals) and sarcodes (excretion and secretion of healthy animals)
Theses remedies are prescribed to fit each individual’s need, given in very small, non-toxic and energetic doses, and are used for both prevention and treatment. It’s safe, gentle and efficient system of medicine and important for front line work where resources are often limited; it is cheap and ecologically sound.
